The Early Years Foundation Stage
Curriculum Guide for Parents

Our aim in the Reception classes is to ensure that the children have a happy and positive start to their life at South Cave CE Primary School.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Guidance and plan across all areas of the curriculum, both inside and outside the classroom.

Transitioning to Reception at South Cave CE Primary School

We are thrilled to welcome new families to our school community! At South Cave Primary School, we believe the transition from pre-school to Reception is a major milestone, and we are dedicated to making it an exciting, positive, and secure experience for every child.

Our approach is built on a productive partnership between home and school to ensure your child reaches their highest potential. To support this journey, we have developed a comprehensive induction program designed to help children and parents feel at home before the first day of term.

Our Induction Program

We offer several opportunities for families to get to know our staff and environment:

  • New Entrants Meeting: An evening session in the school hall for parents to meet the team and learn about the first few weeks of school.
  •
  • Classroom Visits: During the parents' meeting, you will have the chance to explore your child’s new classroom.
  •
  • Personal Home Visits: We believe children benefit greatly from meeting their teacher in the comfort of their own home. These 15-minute visits allow you to discuss your child's specific needs or any concerns with their teacher, Mrs. Askew.
  •
  • "Come and Play" Sessions: These morning sessions allow children to visit the school and play in their new environment. If your child attends Brambley Lodge, their staff will even facilitate their attendance.
  •
  • Whole School Induction Day: Children spend a morning with their new teacher and classmates. To help ease any anxiety about school lunches, parents are invited to stay and join their child for a school meal on this day
  •

Preparing for the Big Day

To ensure a smooth start in September, we provide the following resources and support:

  • New Entrants Pack: Distributed during our May meeting, this pack includes your confirmed home visit schedule and vital starting information.
  •
  • Uniform Information: Samples are displayed at the induction meeting to help with sizing before you order online from The Schoolwear Shop at Holme-on-Spalding Moor.
  •
  • Open Communication: Our school office team is always available at office@southcaveprimary.co.uk to answer any questions you may have during this transition period.

We look forward to beginning this journey with you and your child!
